A New Approach
Two art workshops were held on 16 February and 6 March 2009 respectively with the members of staff at Radiology Department to discuss and plan for the new exhibitions for the waiting area and the corridor leading to the department.
It was a new approach from the previous series of workshops as it was the artist-curator or artist responding to the preferences and opinions of the participants, rather than the participants making art in response to the leading artist.
In the first workshop, participants were invited to choose photographs to show their preferences for art for their working space. By showing their selected photographs, members of staff reasoned their selections and expressed their concerns for their patients in the area. It was agreed that they like to see Northumbria nature in seasons.
In the second workshop, I responded with a new series of photographic images, Ode to Light, for the patient waiting area. Meanwhile I looked for artist whose works may suit the vision of the members of staff. I therefore invited local artist Penny Grennan to present her paintings, Looking Down, to the staff who in the end curated the exhibition with the artist.
