Art workshops to bridge the gap
In the early stage of my research, I found that there was a huge gap between me and the hospital users (mainly the members of staff) on the perception and reception of contemporary art at Hexham General Hospital. Therefore I decided to develop curatorial dialogue through a series of art workshops as a platform for communication and exploration for the role of art in the hospital.
From September 2007 to August 2008, two series of 12 workshops took place in different departments of the hospital resulting 11 exhibitions. Since January 2009, new approaches have been adopted to work with members of staff in the Radiology Department as well as the Tynedale Patients Centre.
