My studio practice is focused on the subject “otherness”. As an international student I have been confused by frequently changes of locations and cultural backgrounds. I therefore decided to bring the questions of “Who am I?” and “Where do I belong?” to my paintings.

Through my brushwork and use of colours in my paintings, I aim to create a sense of disconsolate, suppressed tension on the canvas, describing scenes that are seductive and enigmatic, as well as strange or sinister. Pictorial space moves between figurative and the abstract, juxtaposing the delicate oriental style with an expressive western abstraction, crossing cultural boundaries in paint.
